A special query

Now that Tom Kyte has closed this thread on AskTom, it’s time to move on to a less passionate but equally personal topic. Consider this query:

scott@eddev> select activity_description || ': ' || url as result
 2 from vacations
 3 where place = 'China - Shanghai'
 4 and date = '2005-SEP'
 5 and activity_type = 'photo'
 6 and activity_category = 'food'
7 and activity_note = 'did not dare to eat'
 8 /

result

Frogs: view photo
Chicken feet: view photo
Crab: view photo
Snails: view photo
Dove: view photo
Turtle: view photo
Live snakes: view photo
Live frogs: view photo
Live turtles: view photo
Live crocodile: view photo

10 rows selected.

Which means that in addition to retrieving data from a database, it is also important to secure, encrypt and restrict access to sensitive data. Topics for future posts…

My vacation in Shanghai is coming to an end. I’ll be flying back to Portland, Oregon on Monday and will resume my pre-vacation daily routine on Tuesday. Till then, have a nice weekend.
