As a follow-up to my previous post about the different SQL development tools, here is the result of the quick poll I had on this site.
I asked the question: What SQL development tool do you use most? There were a total of 150 answers, broken down like this:
- Toad: 39% (59)
- PL/SQL Developer: 18% (27)
- SQL*Plus: 16% (24)
- SQL Navigator: 10% (15)
- SQLTools: 4% (6)
- JDeveloper: 3% (5)
- DBArtisan: 2% (3)
- Benthic Golden32: 1% (3)
- Aqua Data Studio: 1% (2)
- SQL*Pal: 1% (2)
- SQL*Plus Worksheet: 1% (1)
- EZ SQL: 1% (1)
- VS.Net: 1% (1)
- MySQL-Front: 1% (1)
The newest kid on the block is Oracle Raptor. It is not yet available (thus not included in the poll). It’s due to be available soon on OTN. How much threat it will be to the current top products remains to be seen.
Update - Dec 28, 2005: Raptor is out. Download the early adopter release from OTN.

It’s free, so I guess it will be quite a big threat
