Lewis, most people just type in the words they are searching for in the search box and hit the search button. I was one of them, until I dug a little deeper into what can be done with Google search if used to its fullest capabilities. It is very simple yet very powerful.

Karl, looks like you brought Google to its knees :) I also searched for ~car, and the first result was www.bmwusa.com. I guess Google returns search results based on the location where the query originated.

Burleson, thanks for the extra tips and links, very helpful and useful.

Hi Eddie,

Great tips! The range operator is very helpful! The search "oracle dba pay $100,000..$300,000" was interesting! Also, lets not forget the direct proximity operator (double quotes) and the all-important OR operator:

"virtual private database"|"row level security"|vpd|rls

Also, the tilde is now a part of "automatic synonym expansion", I'm told, using Princeton WordNet, the future releases will allo end-user control of the degree of synonym expansion:

http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_google_keyword_searching.htm

Finally, have you seen the latest scan where people are storing the results of Oracle Google searches as web pages to drive traffic?

Interesting i played with the slr stuff. even when i took 'slr digital 9-11megapixel $900-$1300 always canon EOS 350 was on top and not my fvaourite NIKON D80. Playing with these paramters then lead me to a never seen google message :

'We're sorry...
... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now. '

Eddie,

I did not know 1, 2, 4, 6 or 7. 4 and 6 are particularly powerful.

Good article.
