Recently, reddit added a new feature: the ability for users to create their own reddits. This new feature is currently in closed beta, but I was lucky enough to be one of the handful of users to get an invitation to play around with it (Thanks Alexis).
First, for those of you who do not know what reddit is, here is a quick introduction from their FAQ page:
reddit is a source for what’s new and popular on the web — personalized for you. We want to democratize the traditional model by giving editorial control to the people who use the site, not those who run it. Your votes train a filter, so let reddit know what you liked and disliked, because you’ll begin to be recommended links filtered to your tastes. All of the content on reddit is from users who are rewarded for good submissions (and punished for bad ones) by their peers; you decide what appears on your front page and which submissions rise to fame or fall into obscurity.
Now, take the above explanation and apply it to an Oracle specific reddit site. What you’ll get is the all new Oracle Bubble News, the reddit clone for Oracle related news and blogs.
You can browse and read submitted links without registering. But, if you want to contribute to Oracle Bubble News (OBN for short) by submitting new links and voting and commenting on submitted ones you need to register. Submitting and voting are highly encouraged because OBN works at its best and is most useful when as many people in the Oracle community are contributing to it.
In addition to the FAQ, I also suggest you check out the help page to get started. In fact, getting started as an active OBN member is extremely easy, just follow these three simple steps:
- Register.
- Install bookmarklet:
- Use the bookmarklet to submit anything Oracle related.
It’s that easy!
Possibly related:
- Blogs, RSS, News Feeds, Newsletters and More
- Another Oracle blogs aggregator
- Feed Overload
- Oracle OpenWorld News Aggregator
- OraNA

I see the Reddit site boasts “register in seconds”. Well I’ve had several cracks at it without apparent success. perhaps the site is running v v slow, perhaps there’s something wrong with my account. Unfortunately, the interface is so suck-y it is hard too tell.
On the bright side it is good to be reminded that the one thing worse than a poor web2.0 interface is a poor web1.0 one.

Cheers, APC
January 25th, 2008, at 6:47 am #Sorry APC, maybe you had a brief unlucky moment. It indeed took me seconds to register, and a few minutes to create OBN.
