Getting Started with Oracle Portal

I inherited a big Oracle Portal recently and was tasked to maintain, support and enhance it. But of course before doing that, I had to learn it. So, if you’re getting started with Oracle Portal, this post gives you a few pointers to more information about this product.

Oracle Application Server Portal 10g Release 2 (10.1.4) is a part of the Oracle Fusion Middleware. It is a declarative environment for building, deploying, and maintaining enterprise portals and Intranets. The latest Oracle Portal version as of the date of this post is 10.1.4.2. Here is the latest Portal upgrade maze:

    Since Oracle’s acquisition of BEA, it seems Oracle has abandoned the OAS stack of products except for BPEL for the new Fusion Middle ware offering. The BEA products are front and center all over the map. Do you see a future for Oracle Portal?
